No – whatever age a child or young person joins KPSD and whether they have had previous training or not, we aim to place them in the appropriate level class for their full training to begin.
Please complete the on-line enquiry form and I will arrange a trial period of 4 weeks so that your child can get a real feel for the class they have chosen and to feel settled in the school.
We do not allow parents to watch their child’s regular class as this is too distracting for the students. We do however encourage parents of young students to watch their first free trial class or longer if they need help settling in. At the end of each full term, we have an ‘open week’ where families are invited to come and watch the classes and see their child’s progress.
We have a uniform for all our classes and this can be purchased via Amber at thedancewearshop@outlook.com. We are lucky to have a dedicated dancewear shop and Amber is happy to deliver items to class in various sizes for your child to try on at home. We do not expect you to purchase any uniform or dancewear for your initial class – PE kit, t-shirt and leggings or any leotard and tights will be acceptable. We do however, ask that uniform be purchased within a month of registration. Details can be found on our uniform page.
Fees are collected every month in advance by direct debit. Our school is open for 39 weeks a year and class fees are divided equally over a 12 month period.
We encourage all pupils to take exams in any of the syllabus classes (ballet, tap, modern, jazz awards) but this is NOT essential and a child can progress to the next level whether or not they decide not to take an exam. Exam entries are at the discretion of the teacher and all work must be covered by attending regularly with extra exam classes where required. Exam fees are non-refundable.
Every other year, we produce a main show at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield (usually March time) and our students also take part in performances at many local events such as school fairs, Mirfield Show, charity events etc throughout the whole school year.
