At what age can children attend classes?
From 3 years - we have Creative Movement and Dance classes which are designed
to establish a basic ballet technique through the use of mime, action and song.
This class is for pre-schoolers only after which there is a wide range of classes
available in ballet, modern, tap, street dance and vocal coaching.
Is there a Waiting List?
It is advisable to register as soon as possible to avoid dissappointment, as
class aizes are limited.
Do the have to take Exams?
We teach the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) syllabus, which has
QCA government accreditation. Whilst we encourage all pupils to aspire to and
gain the level of achievement required for examinations, it is not essential
that exams are taken. The pupil may opt to go straight to the next level. Our
main aim is for all children to enjoy their dancing.
How often do you put on a Show?
Approximately every 18 months at Cleckheaton Town Hall. The whole school is involved
with each class performing one number. Costumes usually cost about £20
and yours to keep. We also have a variety of smaller events throughout the year,
including the very popular 'Choreography Cup', which is held in June.
Are uniforms required for class?
Yes. Please visit the online store to find a full range of exam and class wear
along with shoes and accessories. The store also features a range of Katie Philpott
School of Dance branded leisurewear available to all students and parents.
How much does it cost?
We invoice at the beginning of every half term, with class prices from £2.50
for half an hour up to £4.00 for hourly classes. If three or more classes
are attended per week, there is a 10% rebate. Our terms generally start on a
Monday and finish on a Saturday and coincide with Kirklees school terms.
