THE KATIE PHILPOTT SCHOOL OF DANCE
My love of dance began when I attended local dance classes at
the age of five, which led me to gain a place at Laine Theatre
Arts, Surrey. A career in dance followed, spanning ten years
performing in theatre and cruise ships world wide.
Upon qualifying as a teacher with the ISTD (Imperial Society
of Teachers of Dancing), I taught at schools in East Sussex,
where I was able to choreograph their school productions and
festivals, and achieve a high standard of exam success.
Returning to Yorkshire in 2000, I started to teach in Mirfield
and within a few months we had 90 pupils attending and performed
our first show, 'Boogie Wonderland' at Dewsbury Little Theatre.
The Katie Philpotts School of Dance was born... and now, six
years on, we have 300 pupils operating
six days a week from Wellhouse Moravian Church. We also hold
extra classes at Zion Baptist Church.
We have a variety of different classes for all children from
the age of three, whether they are a beginner or an aspiring
proffesional. All our teachers are fully qualified and friendly
staff offering classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern Theatre, Jazz,
Street Dance, and Musical Theatre.
Please feel free to call in to our classes at any time to get
a flavour of what we do, look
around the rest of this site and contact me if there is anything more you wish
to know about the school, the classes or the teachers.

The concepts I believe underline the success of the Katie
Philpott School of Dance...
...to introduce children to the fascinating world of dance and to promote
an appreciation
of the arts.
...to provide professional training from the age of three, studying the
ISTD syllabus
and examinations.
...to develop musical appreciation and interpretation, giving confidence
to perform.
...to promote an awareness of movement, through correct posture, grace and
co-ordination.
...equally important, is for each child to experience the enjoyment of
this fun
and healthy activity. |
